“Day Skipper Certificate” is the minimum qualification to charter a yacht worldwide legally
Course format
The Day Skipper Course teaches you the skills needed to skipper a yacht safely. Whilst it is a reasonably intense course, there is still time to stop at a different port each night and enjoy the Pontine Islands and the Amalfi Coast. The course lasts for 5 days, including at least a one-night passage of 3+ hours.
As we are in the Mediterranean, you will get plenty of practice in techniques like ‘Med mooring’ (stern-to-mooring), so you will be able to moor safely and competently and look professional when you bring your own boat into the quay.
At the end of the RYA Day Skipper course, you will be confident to skipper a cruising yacht on short passages by day. Students who complete the Day Skipper course are awarded the RYA Day Skipper practical course certificate.

The sailing area is the Archipelago of Pontine Islands, Ischia, Capri, and the Amalfi Coast, around 20 miles offshore from our base on Procida Island.

Prerequisites to the course
- Before attending the “Day Skipper Practical” course, you should have a good knowledge of all the “Day Skipper Theory” topics. You can take a “Day Skipper Theory” course online if you do not have it. We suggest you sign up with Navathome.
- 5 days sea time, including 100 miles and 4 nights hours. This is commonly achieved by doing a Competent Crew course
There are two options for training courses: a private course (you hire your yacht and have your dedicated instructor) or the more traditional mixed-individual course structure. We are more than happy to teach different courses (Competent Crew & Day Skipper) on the same yacht if you have a crew with mixed experience.
Individual Course
Join a yacht with other students. We like to teach a maximum of 3/4 people at a time as we feel it gives each student extra attention and time from the instructor. Each student has a single-occupancy cabin.
